The NAIT Ooks, led by Coach Doug Anton are set for another season of ACAC men's volleyball competition, with a combination of new additions and returning veterans.
Last season was a solid effort for the Ooks, but a string of injuries hampered their success. They ended up finishing third in the ACAC North Division, this set up a first round match-up with the CCAA National Champion Red Deer College King's in the ACAC Championship where a close 3-1 loss abruptly ended their playoff run.
"The boys played and practiced hard all last year. Unfortunately and couple untimely losses and a string of injuries hampered our success," said Coach Doug Anton.
The Ooks will have a new look in many positions this season as only seven players are returning from last year's squad. However, although the squad will be relatively young, recruiting has gone well, and the NAIT Men's volleyball squad should be vying for the top positions in the ACAC North Division. Notable additions to the team this year are a middle blocker, Brandon Eagle the 1st year from Melbourne, Australia. Also returning after taking a year off is 5th year outside hitter and former ACAC All-Conference Jordan Teliske.
"We're a relatively young but enthusiastic team with lots of young talent and depth. We have solid size, and I anticipate our ball control will be better than last season," said Coach Anton.
The NAIT Ooks will open up their season this Friday as they head to Concordia to face the Thunder and then return home on Saturday where they will host the Thunder in their home opener at 3:00 pm in the NAIT Gymnasium.
