Ooks Women’s Basketball Add Three Recruits for the 2018-19 Season

The Ooks Women's Basketball program is proud to announce the commitment of three key recruits for the 2018-19 ACAC Basketball Season. Joining the Ooks next fall are Point Guard - Katherine McDougall, Forward - McKenna Schultz and Point Guard - Desiree Giesbrecht.  "All of these athletes fill needed roles on our team moving forward and we are excited to add them to our roster, they are outstanding students who represent the ideals and values of NAIT and the Ooks culture of excellence and I know as a coach they will be valuable members of our program moving forward." Says Head Coach Todd Warnick of the three additions.

Katherine McDougall (left) a 5'6" point guard comes to NAIT from Moose Jaw Saskatchewan where she brings an impressive playing resume'. A key piece of the A.E. Peacock Collegiate High School Toilers she also brings high-level experience having been a member of the Basketball Saskatchewan U-15 provincial team. She is looking to pursue studies in Alternative Energy Technology at NAIT. "Katherine is a pure point guard a leader both on and off the floor, I am excited to see what she can do in the ACAC and her high level of character, work ethic, basketball background  and academic strength will only add to our team and make us stronger for the future" says Warnick of the Moose Jaw guard.

McKenna Schultz (middle) a 6'0" Forward comes to the Ooks from Archbishop Jordan High School in Sherwood Park of whom former Ook Jordan Enns is an alumnus. The long and athletic forward is described by Coach Warnick as "a much needed rebounder and defensive minded player who uses her length and instincts on the ball to challenge shots and protect the rim from opposing teams" McKenna is an outstanding student who is hoping to study Medical Radiological Technology in the fall and has excellent grades in addition to her great positional defense.

The third recruit to join the Ooks for the fall of 2018 is Desiree Giesbrecht (right) a 5'5" point guard from Hines Creek AB. "Desiree is a tremendous pass-first point guard from a strong program who will add to our skill and depth in the backcourt," Says coach Warnick of the newest addition. Giesbrecht is coached by Ooks Alumnus Toni Ostrem-Craig who played for former Ooks Athletics Manager and former Ooks Women's Basketball Coach Gregg Meropoulis. "Desiree's work ethic and skill set will be very valuable next season and beyond and we are excited to add her to what we do," says coach Warnick of the most recent addition.

A warm welcome to Katherine, McKenna and Desiree on joining the Ooks women's basketball program we are excited to have you be Ooks and know the future is bright with your commitment. Coach Warnick hopes to have a number of other recruiting announcements forthcoming in the next few weeks.
