Ooks Add Three Key Recruits For 2019-2020

EDMONTON, ALTA. - The NAIT Ooks women's basketball program is pleased to announce the signing of three talented high school student-athletes for the 2019-2020 ACAC women's basketball season, Sara ColemanKaya Vandermeer and Austen Robbins.

Sara Coleman (left), a 5'6" point guard from Calgary, Alberta joins the Ooks from a perennial 4A provincial power program, the Centennial High School Coyotes (currently ranked 3rd in 4A provincial rankings). "Sara is a tremendous competitor and floor leader. She brings a very high level of basketball knowledge and skill, as well as a strong foundation from great coaching at both the high school and club level," says head coach, Todd Warnick. "Sara's character, drive, and talent are the perfect match for the team culture we have built here." 

Austen Robbins (middle), a 5'9" guard from the top 3A ranked WR Myers Rebels in Taber, AB. Austen's experience with her high school team in addition to a number of high-level clubs in southern Alberta has helped to prepare her for the ACAC. "Austen is a physical and aggressive guard who has deep threat three-point shooting ability. Those skills make her a definite fit for our program. We are excited to have her be part of our team next season," said Warnick. Austen will be looking to study Combined X-Ray and Laboratory Technology in the fall of 2019.   

Kaya Vandermeer (right), a 5'11" forward comes to the Ooks from the 4A provincial powerhouse St. Albert Catholic High School Skyhawks, who are currently ranked number #1 in the ASAA high school provincial rankings. "The combination of Kaya's length, athletic ability, defensive awareness and communication were key points in our recruitment of her," says Warnick. "Kaya is a fit both in skill and in personality with our team, she has been very well coached by highly respected coach, John Dedrick. I know she will be well prepared for the rigors of ACAC competition." Kaya hopes to be studying Dental Assisting Technology in the fall of 2019.
