NAIT Ooks Set To Take On Griffins In Outdoor Game

EDMONTON, ALTA. - The NAIT Ooks women's hockey team is set to take on the MacEwan Griffins Saturday afternoon outdoors in the Falun Female Frozen Challenge, at the Falun Outdoor Rink in Falun, AB.

The game is being hosted by Pigeon Lake Athletic Cultural Education Society (PLACE) as part of the 4th Annual Christmas dinner, dance and silent auction. Proceeds for the event will benefit PLACE, and go towards building and maintaining a multi-use /multi-seasonal facility that will be able to host family-oriented activities such as free skating, pond hockey, in-line skating, tennis, volley ball, and senior events.

"We are looking forward to being a part of this event. PLACE and all of the volunteers have put in a lot of the work to prepare for the game, we are looking forward to supporting their goals. The rink looks great, it should be a fun day," said NAIT Athletic Director, John Bower.

The weekend after NAIT fell to MacEwan in a shootout, this the final game of the first half of the season will also be the battle for first place. The Ooks (10-2-1) currently lead the Griffins (10-3) by one point atop the ACAC standings.

"This is an incredibly important game as we fight for first heading into the break. The outdoor element adds a lot of excitement for the players and should help keep things light considering the storied rivalry between the two schools. Big thanks to PLACE for putting on and including us in the event, we are looking forward to putting on a good show to support the event," said Ooks head coach, Stef Thomson.

Tickets for the event are still available and can be purchased at Falun Co-Op and Coach's Source for Sports. For more information contact Neil Brown at nbrown@persona.ca.
