The NAIT Ooks women's hockey team hits the ice this weekend in the ACAC semi-finals. The team finished second in the league with an 11-4 record—only two points behind the leader, RDP, who finished 11-2-2. The first round will feature them taking on the Olds Broncos, who are in third place with a 6-8-1 record.
NAIT has a 3-2 record against the Broncos, making for an exciting semi-final match-up. Head Coach Brendan Jensen says, "I feel really good about the team going into playoffs. We are heading in on a 3-game winning streak and playing really well-structured hockey right now."
NAIT has a few top players to watch out for as they enter the post-season, says Jensen, "the players to watch for us in playoffs is no secret. Our top-line with #18 Bre Martin, #27 Cassidy Shandro, and #17 Captain Brittney Savard has been tough to shut down most nights. On the back end, we are led by the team's backbone Kaitlyn Slator in net, and we also have #19 Wynona Creyke, who is the league's top point producing defense."
Bre Martin is at the top of the ACAC individual leader standings with points this season and assists. Brittney Savard is ranked second in the league for goals, and Kaitlyn Slator is the top NAIT goaltender on the charts for both goals-against average and total saves.
The Ooks hit the ice at home on Thursday, March 10th, at 6:30 PM.
