2025 NAIT Ooks Golf Season Preview
September 5, 2025
Golf is a sport that people sometimes overlook, but it can be very exciting, and it requires a lot of preparation to reach its maximum potential, which is why the Golf team has been preparing during the summer to deliver their best performance in the new season.
Planning to qualify once again for the CCAA (Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association) National Championship in Medicine Hat with both men's and women's teams, as they did last year, head coach Tyler Leicht expresses his desire to go even further this year:
"Last year, we accomplished triple silver in Men's, Women's, and Mixed Team divisions, and I would love to see one of those medals turn into Gold this season."
The composition of the team on the men's and women's fields is opposite. While on the men's side, they have a veteran team with some new faces and a great strategy ready to shine, on the women's team, it is a new era with new and incredible athletes supported by just one returning player, ready to give their best on the golf course. Teams in golf might not be seen as something important, but the reality is that you have to do your best in your individual game, therefore doing great with a team score.
Coach Leicht describes it as a "hole-by-hole, shot-by-shot mentality."
There are also some golfers that we can expect to be leading the team this season. On the men's team, it is led by the captain, Mason Gorski, who is entering his final season and will be in charge of leading the talented team at the ACAC (Alberta College Athletic Conference) Championships. He has always been an excellent player and an outstanding competitor, which is why the team is confident that this will be his best season.
As there are known faces, there are also some new ones. On the Women's team, a new addition from Stony Plain Golf Club is joining her first year at NAIT. In the words of the head coach of the team, "She is excellent off the tee, and her strokes gained on the putting green are something to be excited about." That clearly makes her talent something undeniable.
The great composition and the leaders the team has will also assist everyone in the toughest aspect of any sport, "the challenges." We can't deny that golf is a difficult sport, and meeting the expectations of it is even worse, but players need to keep in mind these wise words from their head coach: "A bad shot, a bad hole, or a bad round doesn't define you as a player." if they can remeber those words they will have the strongest season of all presevering always to be better.
