With volleyball and hockey representing NAIT Athletics this weekend, here's a quick recap in case you missed it:
Volleyball
Mens:
The Ooks men's volleyball team faced a tough challenge this past weekend as they prepared to take on the #1-ranked Keyano Huskies. Despite the odds, the Ooks rose to the occasion, delivering a dominant 3-0 sweep on Friday night. Executing a strong game plan with discipline from start to finish, the team controlled the match until the final point. Leading the way at the net, Finn Howard earned Player of the Game honors with over five blocks and an impressive .620 kill percentage to power the Ooks to victory. With a rematch looming on Saturday, the Ooks knew they had to rest, reset, and repeat the formula that brought them success the night before. They did exactly that, securing another convincing 3-0 sweep and completing the weekend with a second win over the formidable Huskies. Leading the offensive charge, Josh Watson recorded over 17 kills, fueling a relentless attack. Outstanding work by the Ooks men's volleyball team!
Women's:
Just like their male counterparts, the Ooks women's volleyball team took on the Keyano Huskies this weekend and delivered an outstanding performance. On Friday night, the Ooks opened the series with a commanding 3-0 victory at home. Leading the offensive charge, middle blocker Tanisha McQueen recorded over three blocks, six digs, and four service aces to propel the team to a strong opening win. Riding that momentum into Saturday, the Ooks were determined to run it back and secure another victory and they did just that. The women's team completed another convincing 3-0 sweep over the Huskies, capping off a perfect weekend for both the men's and women's programs with matching 6-0 clean sweeps. In Saturday's match, right-side hitter Makenna Doyle earned Player of the Game honors, finishing with six kills, seven digs, and one service ace. Well done to the Ooks women's volleyball team on an exceptional weekend!
Hockey
Men's:
With only one game on the schedule this weekend because of their Wednesday night victory over Augustana, the Ooks faced off against the Vikings once again in a hard-fought matchup. Despite a strong effort, the game did not swing in the Ooks' favor, as they fell 2-1 to the Vikings. Decker Mujcin provided the lone goal for the Ooks, while goaltender McCoy Bidewell turned aside over 13 shots to keep the team in the contest until the final whistle.
Women's:
Unlike their male counterparts, the Ooks women's hockey team had a busy weekend with two games against the Olds Broncos. The Ooks opened the series on a strong note, earning a hard-fought 3-2 victory. Brielle Branton led the scoring with one goal, while Makenna Foisy added two to secure the first win of the weekend. Building on that momentum, the Ooks delivered an even more decisive performance in game two, shutting out the Broncos with a 3-0 victory. The goals were spread across the lineup, with Greir Slabaida, Makenna Foisy, and Alison McGregor each finding the back of the net. Well done to the Ooks women's hockey team on an excellent weekend!
