GREGG MEROPOULIS
A LIFETIME OF LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE
Few individuals have had a greater impact on NAIT Athletics than Gregg Meropoulis. Over a remarkable career spanning nearly 40 years, Meropoulis helped shape the growth, culture and success of the Ooks while serving as a coach, instructor, administrator and leader.
Joining NAIT in 1979 as an outdoor education instructor and women's basketball coach, Meropoulis dedicated his career to creating opportunities for student-athletes and advancing collegiate athletics. He coached the NAIT women's basketball program for 20 years and later played a key role in the development and growth of Ooks Athletics as Athletics Manager. Throughout his tenure, he witnessed and helped guide many of the most significant moments in NAIT Athletics history, including the evolution of women's sport, the expansion of athletic programming and the rise of the Ooks as one of Canada's premier collegiate athletic programs.
Meropoulis was instrumental in helping NAIT become a national leader in collegiate athletics, including supporting the groundbreaking move to hire full-time coaches in 2008, a model that would later be adopted by institutions across the country. His passion for student-athletes, commitment to excellence and unwavering belief in the value of athletics helped strengthen the Ooks legacy and elevate NAIT's reputation on the provincial and national stage.
Through four decades of leadership, mentorship and service, Gregg Meropoulis left an enduring mark on generations of student-athletes and helped build the foundation for the success that continues to define NAIT Athletics today.
